Netflix is Giving 'Stranger Things' One Last Adventure in Upcoming Documentary

Just when you thought the story was over, Netflix announced One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, a surprise feature-length documentary set to drop globally on January 12. The move, which gives fans a final look at the blockbuster series.

  • Return of the king: In an era of disposable social media clips, the Duffer brothers are positioning the project as a deliberate artifact from the golden age of physical media. They cited the extensive making-of features from The Lord of the Rings as direct inspiration, stating they wanted to bring back that style of in-depth storytelling which has "largely disappeared."

  • Writing 'end series': The documentary's trailer leans into the emotional weight of the ending, showing tearful final table reads and the creators grappling with the show's conclusion. Ross Duffer admitted that "writing the last lines these characters would ever say, it was really hard to do," while his brother Matt added that simply typing the words "End Series" had the biggest impact.

TNetflix is milking the finale of its flagship franchise for all it's worth, tapping into fan nostalgia and giving one of its biggest-ever hits a proper, DVD-era send-off. Deadline's extensive coverage of the finale includes a hint from the Duffer brothers about a potential spinoff.
