Spectrum Reach Taps AI to Create 15,000+ Ads for Local Businesses

Charter’s ad sales arm, Spectrum Reach, revealed that its partnership with AI video startup Waymark has produced over 15,000 TV campaigns since early 2023. The collaboration is designed to give small and local businesses a fast, affordable way to create television commercials, a medium often out of reach for companies without large budgets.

  • Complexity, cancelled: The platform uses generative AI to produce a commercial in minutes, with features like "Click to Edit" that let users alter video elements with a simple click. Michael Guth, Spectrum Reach's SVP of Marketing, said the goal is to provide a tool that is "quick, affordable and accessible," removing the traditional complexity of TV ad production for small business owners.

  • The alligator in the ad: Early adopter Fun Spot America amusement park used a premium tool called "Waymark Cinematic" for a season pass promotion. The AI even went so far as to generate a Florida alligator for the ad, which was combined with footage from Spectrum's in-house agency. Fun Spot America’s CEO John Arie Jr. said the final product’s quality “felt like something that you’d see in a movie,” while other businesses, like a Milwaukee staffing agency, called the ads a "difference maker" for connecting with job candidates.

The partnership is part of a broader strategy to democratize access to TV advertising. Waymark CEO Alex Persky-Stern noted that by combining Spectrum's local market data with Waymark's technology, they are giving local businesses "the tools to tell their stories... in ways that used to be reserved for larger brands.”
