Roku's OS 15 Update Arrives With New Features and User Complaints

Roku has begun pushing its latest free software update, OS 15, to millions of devices, promising new features and performance upgrades, but the rollout has been marked by user complaints of significant technical glitches.

  • What's new on screen: The update expands the Sports Experience hub with live scores and game reminders and improves the viewing experience for home theater fans with better support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. This week, the phased rollout is reaching most of Roku's TV lineup, including devices from major brands like TCL and Hisense.

  • A few hitches: But the rollout hasn't been entirely smooth, with some users taking to Roku's community forums to report issues. Complaints include lag and pixelation so bad one user called it "unwatchable", while another reported their device unexpectedly performed a factory reset in the middle of the night.

The update highlights Roku's ongoing challenge: adding modern features to stay competitive while ensuring the platform's signature stability across a vast range of new and old hardware.

The OS 15 rollout comes as Roku continues to manage other software quirks, including an ongoing investigation into audio dropouts on the Fandango at Home app and persistent user complaints about the performance of major third-party apps like Apple TV on its platform.
