TelevisaUnivision Bets Big on 24/7 Reality to Fuel ViX Streaming

In a major play for the Spanish-language streaming audience, TelevisaUnivision has launched “¿Apostarías Por Mí?”, an always-on reality competition designed to drive subscriptions for its ViX service and directly challenge rival Telemundo, as reported by Deadline.

  • High-stakes romance: Based on the “Power Couple” format, the show pits 12 celebrity couples against each other in a high-surveillance villa. The couples test their bonds by wagering on their partner's ability to win daily challenges, all vying for a $300,000 grand prize.

  • All roads lead to ViX: The strategic linchpin is ViX, the company's wholly-owned streamer and the exclusive home for the 24/7 live feeds. To maximize reach, the company funnels audiences from weekly galas on its flagship Univision channel and nightly recaps on UniMás, creating a direct pipeline to convert broadcast viewers into paying subscribers.

  • Made in Brazil: To execute the ambitious production, the network is producing the show in São Paulo, Brazil. The location allows it to use production giant Fremantle’s existing infrastructure for large-scale reality formats.

The show's performance will be a key indicator of TelevisaUnivision's ability to leverage its broadcast strength to build a competitive moat for ViX in the crowded streaming landscape. The reality show gambit is part of a broader content strategy for TelevisaUnivision, which is also investing in new formats like short-form microdramas and a larger push into music to capture a wider audience.
