DirecTV Offers Small Businesses a Way to Cut the Cord

DirecTV for Business has launched a nationwide streaming TV service that lets small businesses self-install a commercial viewing package using their existing broadband, moving beyond the constraints of satellite dishes.

  • Dodging the dish: The service is a direct answer to satellite's longstanding physical limitations—like landlord restrictions and line-of-sight issues—that have often made it a non-starter for businesses in dense urban areas. The new streaming option targets a wide range of commercial spaces, from bars and restaurants to gyms and medical waiting rooms.

  • What's on tap: Plans start at $69.99 per month, according to _Streaming Better_, giving businesses access to premium live channels alongside a curated collection of more than FAST channels. The selection includes content from major players like Disney, NBCUniversal, and Warner Bros. Discovery, plus sports from the NBA and Fox Sports.

  • A digital transformation: "DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS has been undergoing the same digital transformation as our consumer platform, and the launch of our new streaming TV for business option gives small business owners more choice and flexibility," said Doug Eichler, Senior Vice President at DirecTV for Business. The company frames the offering not as a replacement for satellite, but as an alternative for different business needs.

The launch marks the latest step in the company's pivot to streaming, following a recent hospitality-focused deal with Google. While the new service is initially for small businesses, DirecTV says an expansion for larger businesses is on the horizon.
